Sun Lakes Rotary Press Release

Rotary Club of Sun Lakes Partners with TRVFA to Award $2,000 Scholarship to EVIT Student - Submitted by Dr. Honora Norton, RCSL Public Image Chair
The Rotary Club of Sun Lakes (RCSL) has partnered with The Rotary Vocational Fund of Arizona (TRVFA) to sponsor a $2,000 vocational scholarship to Omar Federico. Through partnering with TRVFA, RCSL is creating a lasting change by allowing individuals, like Omar, to get a step up and contribute to his/her community.
RCSL Rotarians Gary Kay and Jon Lyons interviewed Omar and their findings were: Omar was born in Yuma, AZ, and moved to Mesa AZ at an early age.  Omar lives with his mother, unfortunately, his father passed away two years ago.  Omar is employed at a small company where he is helping the owner on small jobs that involve welding and applicable job setups.  Omar will be starting a one-year welding program at East Valley Institute of Technology - EVIT.

Per a statement from RCSL Club President, Jon Lyons: Omar’s current passion is welding and learning the business from his boss.  He is a very dedicated young man who has a great work ethic and wants to ‘earn his way to success.’   The RCSL is honored to sponsor Omar.  He will be invited to join future RCSL meetings - so members can hear how Omar is doing in the EVIT welding program.

TRVFA Funding Activity Through Sept 8 2021
The following report compares TRVFA grant application funding for our 2020-21 fiscal year (July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021 with our current fiscal year-to-date.

As you can see, we have already funded nearly half as many grants in the first two months and 8 days of the current fiscal year.  With this kind of funding activity, we need our donors to become advocates for giving to support what we do.

Our donations are typically very seasonal, but we hope this level of funding activity will inspire some of our donors to send their support early.  We also hope they will brag about their support of TRVFA in order to inspire new donors to support the life-changing vocational education grants their donations will support.  CLICK HERE to go to our on-line donation page.  CLICK HERE for a downloadable mail-in donation form.
