Dan Messersmith

We are mourning the loss of Dan Messersmith who passed away the morning of October 27.

Dan was a Past District Governor of Rotary District 5490.  He served over a decade on the board of Directors of TRVFA.  His largest contribution was his service of personally processing grant applications for hundreds of individuals wanting to improve their earning capacity.  He was honored for his investment of time and talent last spring at the Rotary District 5495 District Conference where he was presented with The Rotary Service Above Self Award from Rotary International.

The processes Dan implemented enabled us to grow in our ability to serve more students and do it more efficiently.

Dan retired from the TRVFA board in July, 2021 following his service as our President.  We hope you will take a moment to remember him, appreciating his contribution to the lives of so many grant recipients.

If you want to honor his memory by making a donation in his honor, you can make your donation online at trvfa.org.

Grant Activity So Far in 2022-23
The following table will show you how grant activity compares so far this fiscal year to all of 2021-22.  Our fiscal year starts July 1 each year.  When we began the 2021-22 year, we carried a large number of pending grants forward, so it may appear that we are having a slow-down in activity.  That does not seem to be the case, but there are some observable differences in the grant applications coming in so far this year.  A larger percentage of grants are outside of medical-related vocations.  We are seeing more applications from community college students, but we are still needing to reach those needing vocational education in our rural communities in Arizona.  We know there are active vocational education programs at virtually all the outlying community colleges, and we sincerely hope their qualifying students will apply for our grants.
